Srinagar: Hot and humid weather conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a significant change in weather from today, including widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of the Union Territory.
The MeT Department has advised people to remain alert as the approaching wet spell could trigger flash floods, landslides and shooting stones in vulnerable areas, particularly along hilly terrain and major highways.
The department said intermittent rain and thunderstorms are likely over many places, bringing respite from the prevailing heat and humidity. However, the change in weather may also disrupt surface transport and outdoor activities in vulnerable regions.
Locals, tourists and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims have been advised to follow weather advisories issued by the authorities and avoid venturing into flood-prone areas, landslide zones and along unstable hill slopes during periods of intense rainfall.
The MeT Department has urged all concerned agencies to remain prepared for any weather-related contingencies during the forecast period. [KNT]
