Patient from Bandipora Denied Urgent Colonoscopy at Super Speciality Hospital Shireen Bagh

Srinagar: In a deeply troubling incident highlighting alleged medical negligence, a patient from Bandipora suspected of having a tumor was denied urgent colonoscopy at the Super Specialty Hospital in Shireen Bagh, Srinagar, despite medical advice suggesting immediate intervention.

The patient, who had earlier been admitted to SMHS Hospital with internal bleeding, underwent a CT endoscopy. According to attending doctors at SMHS, the scan showed tumor markers that required urgent colonoscopy to confirm the diagnosis and initiate timely treatment.

However, when the patient’s attendant approached the Gastroenterology Department at Shireen Bagh Super Specialty Hospital requesting an early date for the procedure, he was allegedly given a colonoscopy appointment for **December 6, 2026**—over a year from now.

“When I told them that doctors at SMHS had advised urgent testing, the staff not only ignored my plea but shouted at me,” the attendant told *Kashmir News Bureau*. “I went again, hoping they would understand the seriousness, but they behaved the same. No one was ready to listen.”

He added, “If we have such great facilities at the Super Specialty Hospital, why is the staff ignoring patients with urgent needs? We are now forced to go to a private hospital to get the colonoscopy done because it simply can’t wait.”

The family has urged the government and health authorities to take serious note of the behavior and functioning of the staff at Shireen Bagh Super Specialty Hospital, especially in dealing with critical cases.

This incident has once again brought into focus the gap between available infrastructure and effective healthcare delivery, particularly in government-run hospitals, where administrative or staff inefficiencies often become life-threatening barriers for patients in urgent need.
