Preliminary Reports Suggest Suicide; Senior IPS Officer Earlier Handled High-Profile CBI Investigations Including Nirav Modi Case
Agartala, July 20: Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar (IPS, 1994 batch) was found dead at the Police Headquarters in Agartala on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the police fraternity.
According to preliminary reports available with news agency JKNS, the senior IPS officer is suspected to have died by suicide. However, the exact cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anurag Dhankar had served in several key positions during his distinguished career and had earlier handled a number of high-profile investigations while serving with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), including the Nirav Modi bank fraud case. He was also associated with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre.
