Extend Domicile Period To 50 Years Altaf Bukhari Urges CM Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Oct 16: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday hailed the government’s decision to resume the traditional biannual Darbar Move, calling it a “commendable step” that preserves Jammu and Kashmir’s historic legacy and socio-cultural fabric.

Bukhari in a statement said that while the practice of shifting offices between Srinagar and Jammu may no longer be essential for administrative efficiency, it continues to carry immense social, cultural, and economic significance for the Union Territory.

“I congratulate the government on taking this decision. The Darbar,” Bukhari said.

The Apni party president urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take a “bold and forward-looking step” by amending the domicile eligibility rules.

“Since you also hold the revenue portfolio, I appeal to you to extend the residency requirement for domicile eligibility from the current 15 years to 50 years. Such a move would be a remarkable contribution by this government,” he added.
