[ad_1]

“Such attacks may constitute war crimes,” she added, if deemed to be indiscriminate and disproportionate in their impact on civilians. Bachelet urged Israel to ensure accountability, as required under international law in such cases, including through “impartial, independent investigations” of actions in the escalation.

Spain’s postal service introduces skin-tone stamps to fight racism — and makes the whitest one the most valuable

[ad_1]

“The darker the stamp, the less value it will have,” the state-owned company, called Correos, said in a news release announcing the launch. “Therefore, when making a shipment, it will be necessary to use more black stamps than white ones. That way, each letter and each shipment will become a reflection of the inequality created by racism.”

Brad Pitt granted joint custody of his children with Angelina Jolie

[ad_1]

Brad Pitt has been granted joint custody of his children with ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

The tentative ruling comes after a long set of legal proceedings in California regarding the custody of their five underage children.

The Hollywood stars are parents to Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, but their oldest child Maddox, 19, is not subject to the custody decision.

PA news agency reported that they hired a private judge whose ruling was based on testimony, including from professionals who had spoken with the children.

It will “significantly increase” the amount of time Pitt can spend with the children, a source was quoted as saying.

According to US outlet Page Six, Jolie did not object to the ruling but there were “other issues of concern”.

She had criticised the judge for not allowing the children to testify and had tried to have him disqualified from the case, accusing him of having professional relationships with members of her ex-husband’s team.

The two actors met on the set of the film Mr & Mrs Smith in 2005. They married in 2014 but Jolie filed for divorce two years later.

The divorce was finalised in April 2019.

Pitt had been accused of being abusive towards Maddox, then 15, but an investigation did not result in any charges.

Jolie told Vogue last year that she had left the marriage for the wellbeing of her family, describing her children as “very brave, very strong young people”.

In 2017 Pitt told GQ about how he stopped drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, saying: “For me every misstep has been a step toward epiphany, understanding, some kind of joy.

“Yeah, the avoidance of pain is a real mistake. It’s the real missing out on life.”

School Of Rock drummer Kevin Clark dies in bike accident

[ad_1]

Kevin Clark, who played mouthy drummer Freddy Jones in the film School Of Rock, has died at the age of 32.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Clark had been cycling in the Avondale area of the city when he was hit by a car in the early hours of Wednesday.

He was found by paramedics and died in hospital.

The newspaper described the intersection as “notoriously dangerous” and said that, while the 20-year-old driver of the car was not arrested, police had issued citations.

It is nearly 20 years since Clark acted in the popular 2003 film about a layabout rock fan – played by Jack Black – who winds up teaching a class of children and turning them into a band.

Clark had started learning to play the drums as a five-year-old and got the part at the age of 12.

It was his only acting role but he continued with his music into adulthood, forming bands, writing songs and teaching children.

The Sun-Times said that he had just started a new band that had performed live for the first time last weekend.

“He told his bandmates just yesterday: ‘You know, this is finally the life I want to live. And we’re going to make it. You’re my musical family – my family – and we’re all going to make it’,” his mother Allison Clark told the newspaper.

Black posted photos on Instagram of himself with Clark in the film and more recently, writing that news of his death was “devastating”.

“Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories. Heartbroken. Sending love to his family and the whole School Of Rock community.”

Analysis | George Floyd’s murder launched a global movement. It also sparked a reactionary backlash.

[ad_1]

In a statement after his meeting with the Floyd family, Biden urged lawmakers in Congress to push through criminal justice and police reform legislation in Floyd’s name, a month after Chauvin was convicted of his murder. The president noted how Floyd, in the words of his daughter Gianna, “changed the world” and opened a new chapter in the “battle for the soul” of the country: “His murder launched a summer of protest we hadn’t seen since the Civil Rights era in the ’60s — protests that peacefully unified people of every race and generation to collectively say enough of the senseless killings,” Biden said.

Assad’s guaranteed election victory shows limits of U.S. policy on Syria

[ad_1]

Western diplomats say they see little likelihood that an election widely regarded as flawed in Western capitals will prompt steps toward normalizing relations with Assad. Although some Arab countries, notably the United Arab Emirates, have restored relations, important regional powers such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia have held back, deterred by sanctions and the lack of progress toward a political settlement that would resolve the larger crisis of a divided and impoverished Syria, the diplomats say.
