Final to be played in Dubai on March 09
Srinagar: In a thrilling semi-final at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India secured their place in the final by defeating reigning champions Australia by four wickets.
The match, held at the Dubai International Stadium, showcased stellar performances from both sides.
Electing to bat first, Australia posted a total of 264 runs in 49.3 overs. Captain Steve Smith led from the front with a composed 73, while wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey contributed a valuable 61. India’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Mohammed Shami, who claimed three wickets, effectively curbing Australia’s momentum.
Chasing 265 for victory, India faced early setbacks with the dismissals of openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. However, a resilient partnership between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer stabilized the innings. Kohli anchored the chase with a masterful 84 off 98 balls, while Iyer added a crucial 45. All-rounder Hardik Pandya’s brisk 28 off 24 balls and KL Rahul’s unbeaten 42 ensured India reached the target in 47.4 overs.
Virat Kohli’s 84 marked his 41st fifty-plus score in ODI chases, underscoring his reputation as a chase master.
This victory propels India into their third consecutive Champions Trophy final, having previously won in 2013 and finished as runners-up in 2017.
India now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand to determine their opponent in the final.
