Pattan, Oct 16: The ‘New Era Islamia Public Secondary School’ in North Kashmir’s Pattan town of Baramulla district has blacklisted the coaching institute Physics Wallah, after a recent video went viral on social media allegedly showing a teacher involved in an alleged “inappropriate act”.
The video, which has been circulating across various platforms, has sparked public outrage, with parents, teachers, and education activists calling for strict oversight of private coaching institutions operating in the Kashmir Valley. The incident has once again placed the popular edtech company under scrutiny for lapses in supervision and professional conduct.
Following the uproar, the Pattan-based school management announced that it would not permit Physics Wallah to conduct any entrance tests or student-related events within its premises. “We cannot allow any activity that undermines student dignity or public trust in the education system. Our institution stands for discipline, ethics, and accountability,” said a spokesperson of the school.
This is not the first time Physics Wallah in Kashmir has faced public criticism. In 2024, the Institution came under fire after a video from one of its centres reportedly showed a teacher displaying inappropriate content before students. The firm had at that time denied the allegations, claiming that the footage was manipulated and that the concerned individual had already been dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
The recurrence of such controversies has raised serious concerns about the internal monitoring and training mechanisms within the organization. Education observers say that these repeated incidents highlight the need for a formal regulatory framework to oversee the functioning of private coaching centres in the Valley.
“Coaching institutes are mushrooming without proper accountability. There is an urgent need for government intervention to ensure ethical and safe environments for our students,” said an educationist based in Srinagar. [KNT]
