Transport Commissioner Visits Budgam for Inspection of ARTO Office and Infrastructure

Budgam: Shri Vishesh Mahajan, Transport Commissioner, Jammu & Kashmir, conducted an official visit to Budgam today to undertake a comprehensive inspection of the ARTO Office Budgam and review the status of transport infrastructure in the district. He was accompanied by Shri Qazi Irfan, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, the Transport Commissioner held an interaction with transporters and stakeholders at the RTO Office, Bemina, where he listened to their concerns, suggestions, and feedback regarding transport operations, permit issues, and public service delivery. He assured them that genuine concerns would be addressed in a time-bound manner and reiterated the department’s commitment to transparent and efficient governance.He reiterated that the recent directive — permitting only applicants to visit RTO and ARTO offices in order to further strengthen transparency — shall be implemented in letter and spirit.

During his visit to Budgam, Shri Mahajan assessed the functioning of the ARTO office, interacted with the staff, and emphasized the need for enhanced service delivery, transparency, and citizen convenience. He reviewed office operations and suggested improvements for public interface and efficiency.

The Transport Commissioner also inspected the proposed site for the Driving Trial Track at Ompura, aimed at streamlining the driving license testing process and ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.

As part of this initiative, Shri Mahajan held a discussion with the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, regarding the transfer of the proposed site at Ompura for use by the Transport Department. He stressed the importance of expediting the handover process and initiating driving tests at the site once the required infrastructure is in place.

He also reviewed other infrastructure requirements and issued directions for prioritizing key works. The visit reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional transport facilities and improve citizen-centric service delivery.
