Aga Ruhullah Says Mustafa Kamal Remained One of Party’s Strongest Voices on Autonomy

Srinagar, July 15: National Conference Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Wednesday paid rich tributes to veteran party leader and former minister Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, describing his demise as a major loss for the National Conference and Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.

Speaking to reporters, Ruhullah said Dr Kamal remained one of the National Conference’s most steadfast leaders and consistently upheld the party’s ideology, particularly its stand on autonomy and constitutional commitments.

“It is a big loss for the National Conference. Dr Mustafa Kamal remained steadfast in the party’s ideology of autonomy and constitutional commitments. He was among the strongest advocates and voices for autonomy,” Ruhullah said.

Recalling his long political association with the late leader, the MP said they had worked together in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, where Dr Kamal’s experience and commitment to the party’s principles earned him widespread respect.

“He was a senior colleague. We worked together in the Assembly. He remained committed to the National Conference’s ideology and was a strong advocate of autonomy. We have lost one of the party’s most dedicated leaders,” he added.

Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, former Cabinet minister, senior National Conference leader and younger brother of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah, passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness. [KNT]
