Jammu, July 5: An Amarnath Yatra pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh died during after being bitten by a snake in Jammu in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.
Official sources told news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as 42-year-old, Amit Kumar, son of Gaya Prasad, a resident of Ram Krishna Nagar, Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
They said Amit Kumar was bitten by a snake in the midnight hours, and was immediately shifted to Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Jammu for treatment.
Despite the best efforts of the attending doctors, his condition deteriorated and he succumbed during treatment, they said.
The body was taken to GMCH Jammu for post-mortem examination and completion of other legal formalities, sources added
Cognizance of the incident has been taken and further investigation initiated. (JKNS)
