After reports emerged of Israel-US strike near Pakistan embassy in the Iranian capital Tehran on Thursday (March 26), Pakistan Strategic Forum, affiliated to the government released a statement saying that any harm to its diplomats, whether in Iran or elsewhere by Israel, will be met with a strong response.
“Israel must remember, Pakistan is no Qatar. We will beat hell out of them if any harm occurred to our diplomats, anywhere in the world”, read the statement by Pakistan Strategic Forum.
The warning came amid reports of fresh aerial strikes carried out by Israel and the United States in central parts of Tehran on Thursday, including areas in proximity to the residence of Pakistan’s ambassador and the Pakistani Embassy in Iran’s capital.
Initial information from sources suggests that the embassy compound and Pakistani diplomatic staff were not harmed, but several nearby buildings shook violently as explosions rocked the neighbourhood.
The timing of the strike is particularly sensitive for Pakistan, which has been attempting to position itself as a mediator between United States, Israel and Iran. Pakistani officials have publicly stated that “if both parties desire, Islamabad is willing to host talks” between the United States and Iran.
