The United Arab Emirates has informed the United States and other Western allies that it is willing to join a multinational maritime force aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
According to the report, the UAE is also pushing for the creation of a broader “Hormuz Security Force” involving multiple countries to protect the strategic waterway from Iranian attacks and ensure safe passage for commercial shipping.
The UAE has reportedly faced more Iranian strikes than any other country in the region, including Israel. However, several US allies have so far declined to commit naval assets, resisting a request from Donald Trump for military support to help secure the crucial shipping route.
