Samson’s explosive 89 powers India’s batting; Bumrah’s four-wicket spell crushes New Zealand
Ahmedabad, Mar 8: Defending champions India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs and successfully retain the ICC T20 World Cup title in the final played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
After being put in to bat, India delivered a batting masterclass, posting a massive 255/5 in 20 overs, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC.
Sanju Samson led the charge with a sensational 89 off 46 balls, smashing five fours and eight sixes. He was well supported by Abhishek Sharma, who scored a blistering 52 off just 21 balls, and Ishan Kishan, who added a quick 54 off 25 deliveries, keeping the scoring rate high throughout the innings.
In the closing overs, Shivam Dube provided the finishing touch with a fiery 26 not out off 8 balls, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 8, helping India post one of the highest totals in a T20 World Cup final.
Chasing a daunting target of 256, New Zealand struggled to build momentum as the Indian bowlers kept striking at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell, claiming 4 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs, dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup.
Axar Patel also played a crucial role with three wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with a wicket each.
The Black Caps were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, handing India a comprehensive victory and ensuring the defending champions lifted the ICC T20 World Cup trophy once again.
