Kashmir has witnessed an unprecedented surge in daytime temperatures, with all stations across the Valley recording their highest-ever maximum temperatures for the month of February. What was once considered peak winter has now turned historically warm.
In Srinagar, the average maximum temperature soared to 15.6°C, surpassing the previous February record of 14.9°C set in 2016. Similarly, Qazigund recorded 15.2°C, comfortably breaking its earlier record of 14.1°C from 2016.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara climbed to 14.8°C, narrowly but decisively overtaking the previous highest of 14.7°C recorded in 2016.
The warmth was not confined to the plains. In south Kashmir, Kokernag touched 13.5°C, exceeding its previous February high of 12.8°C set in 2016.
Pahalgam, known for its colder profile, recorded 12.1°C, going past its earlier record of 11.6°C from 2016.
Even the hill resort of Gulmarg, typically among the coldest places during this time of the year, recorded 7.0°C, smashing its long-standing February record of 5.9°C set back in 2006.
February, traditionally associated with persistent chill and snow cover, has instead delivered spring-like afternoons — a development that firmly places this month among the warmest ever observed in Kashmir’s recorded history.
