Srinagar: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, on Monday expressed anguish over the heinous killing of a minor girl in Ganderbal during a failed abduction attempt.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said the gruesome act had “extinguished a young life, devastated a family, and shaken the entire society,” while also exposing the vulnerability of women and children in Kashmir. He urged the authorities to “immediately nab the culprits and award them the harshest punishment as a deterrent,” adding that only swift action could help restore public confidence, particularly among young girls.
Extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Mirwaiz prayed for patience and strength to them in their time of grief.
He further stressed that safeguarding the lives and dignity of women and children was a shared responsibility of both society and institutions, and called for collective efforts to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.
