Jammu, Aug 23: After seizure of rotten meat and chicken, the Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) has now seized 21 quintals of suspected synthetic cheese and 78 tins of expired mustard oil during a raid in the Pandita Mohalla in Gangyal area of Jammu on Saturday.
In a statement a spokesperson said cheese with foul smell and expired oil were stored in insanitary conditions, in gross violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).
The statement reads that the food items were seized during a major enforcement drive in the Gangyal area following credible inputs.
“During the drive, it was found that the food items were in violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), including breaches with storage, labelling provisions, and operating without a valid FSSAI license,” it reads.
It added samples of the suspected synthetic cheese were also collected on-site for laboratory analysis under FSSA norms.
“The violators shall be booked under various provisions of the FSSA for dealing in expired food items and that legal action under the FSSA has been initiated. These enforcement drives will continue rigorously across Jammu & Kashmir to curb the menace of food adulteration,” it reads.
