Srinagar, July 19: Religious leader Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami has strongly condemned the growing trend of targeting and defaming respected Islamic scholars on social media, especially on Facebook.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said that people who insult true religious scholars (Ulama-e-Haq) out of jealousy, hatred, or personal gain, cannot weaken the courage or commitment of these scholars.
Allama Hami said that a few individuals are continuously running slander campaigns on social media, making false allegations and trying to damage the image of religious personalities who have always worked for peace, unity, and truth. He warned that strict legal action will soon be taken against those involved in such activities.
He expressed serious concern over certain groups with a negative mindset, who are spreading propaganda against scholars who have spent their lives serving the religion and working to unite society. Hami said that the aim of these people is to create mistrust and confusion among the public, and that some corrupt and dishonest elements may be supporting them.
“These people cannot tolerate peace and brotherhood in society. They have no connection with knowledge or good values. Their only intention is to turn people away from religious guidance, so that society remains trapped in immorality, misconduct, and drug abuse,” he said.
Allama Hami also revealed that some of these anti-scholar elements have even attacked religious figures during the night, and in some cases, there are even plots to harm or kill them.
He urged the government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against such people. “The time has come to deal strictly with those who try to harm scholars and disturb peace in society,” he said, asking authorities to identify and punish the culprits as soon as possible.
