Budgam: Former Minister and President of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Shah, today filed a criminal complaint against Sandeep Mawa before the Hon’ble Court of Judicial Magistrate Budgam through his Counsel Advocate Arif Shah.
The complaint has been filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Defamation), in response to a video recorded and circulated by Sandeep Mawa on various social media platforms, including Facebook, wherein he allegedly made false, derogatory, and defamatory allegations against Mr. Hakeem Yaseen, aimed at damaging his public image and political standing.
After hearing preliminary submissions, the Hon’ble Court issued a pre-cognizance notice to the accused and listed the matter for further hearing on 21st July 2025.
Advocate Arif Shah, counsel for Mr. Yaseen, stated that the defamatory content was a deliberate and malicious attempt to tarnish the reputation of a respected public figure. He further informed that a separate civil suit for damages is also being prepared and will be filed shortly, seeking compensation for the harm caused to Mr. Yaseen’s reputation and standing in society.
He emphasized that such reckless misuse of digital platforms to spread baseless allegations cannot be allowed to go unchecked and will be met with firm legal recourse.
