Handwara, Jun 20: A horrifying case has come to light in the Qalamabad area of Handwara, Kupwara, where a minor girl became pregnant after being raped and later died by suicide. Police have now made a major breakthrough by arresting the accused, whose involvement was confirmed through DNA testing, police said in a statement.
They said that the case was registered on May 6, 2025, at Police Station Qalamabad under FIR No. 17/2025, invoking serious charges under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the minor girl was six months pregnant, pointing to a prolonged period of sexual abuse.
