Pulwama-based photographer Rayees Ul Hassan, who is also a police official by profession, has captured stunning images of the long-eared owl, a rare and elusive species in Kashmir. Known for its distinctive ear tufts and piercing orange eyes, this owl is rarely spotted due to its exceptional camouflage and nocturnal nature. Using his Nikon D750 with a 200-500mm lens, Rayees managed to document this magnificent bird in its natural habitat in Pulwama district.
As soon as the images surfaced, wildlife photographers from across Kashmir began heading to Pulwama, eager to capture this rare species. The sighting has not only ignited excitement among photographers but also highlighted the valley’s rich yet often overlooked biodiversity. Experts emphasize the need for conservation efforts to protect such rare species and their natural habitats. Rayees Ul Hassan’s discovery serves as a reminder of the hidden wildlife treasures in Kashmir, encouraging more nature enthusiasts to explore and preserve the region’s delicate ecosystem.
