Srinagar, Mar 04: : Faculty members at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri on Tuesday urged the University administration to revoke suspension of assistant professor Dr Parvez Abdullah, saying his health condition was “deteriorating fast” in the wake of hunger strike launched by him and his colleagues.
In a fresh memorandum addressed to the BGSBU Vice Chancellor, the faculty members said the prevalent deadlock should be resolved in the interest of all stakeholders.
The memorandum has been signed by all faculty members who have launched a peaceful strike seeking revocation of Dr Abdullah’s suspension.
Dr Abdullah was suspended a few days ago with faculty alleging that it was done arbitrarily to scuttle voices against “illegal promotions granted in the Nursing department”.
While the teachers started the pen down strike four days ago, the hunger strike entered its second consecutive day Tuesday.
Former J&K chief minister and president of Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti this morning voiced concern over the situation in BGSBU, asking the administration to address the issue with urgency.
“The suspension of Dr. Parvez Abdullah from Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University has escalated into a major issue with both teaching & non-teaching staff going on an indefinite strike in his support. This has become a pressing concern as it is significantly impacting the academic environment and the overall educational system at the university. Moreover many conspiracy theories are making rounds which threaten the very existence of this precious university . The administration must clarify the reasons behind his suspension and make them public. Transparency and accountability are crucial to understand why such action was taken against the assistant professor”, she wrote on X.
The University meanwhile has sought to defend the suspension saying it was done under norms. However the faculty has upped the ante seeking revocation of suspension order, putting the blame for any mishap with teachers on the Vice Chancellor and his administration. (KDC)
