Waheed Parra Questions Government Over Satellite Township Project in J&K Assembly, Fears Demographic Impact

Jammu: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Legislative Leader and MLA from Pulwama, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, raised serious concerns in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly during a starred question regarding the identification of land for the proposed satellite township project. He questioned the government’s transparency and sought clarity on the intended beneficiaries, emphasizing that the people of Jammu & Kashmir remain uncertain about the project’s purpose and scope.

Parra specifically inquired whether the township was designed to benefit the indigenous population or to accommodate outsiders, highlighting growing public apprehensions. He further cautioned that any ambiguity in such projects could fuel concerns over potential demographic changes in the region.

In response, the concerned minister, Sakina Itoo, stated that the primary objective of the satellite township is to regulate unplanned urban expansion and address housing demands. She assured that details regarding the beneficiaries would be disclosed after the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Despite this response, Parra remained unconvinced, reiterating that the government must ensure full transparency in land allocation and project execution. He stressed that development initiatives should be inclusive and prioritize the needs of the local population.

Parra urged the government to engage in open dialogue with stakeholders to dispel doubts and ensure that the project aligns with the interests of Jammu & Kashmir’s indigenous people.
