Discussion in Parliament must be transparent, NC will decide and guide MPs on voting, says CM Omar Abdullah
Srinagar, Dec 13: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament (MP) Mian Altaf has voiced his opposition to the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election’ policy, criticizing the Union Cabinet’s decision to approve it in what he described as a “hurried manner.”
Speaking to the media according to news gathering agency KINS, Altaf said, “This is a significant decision that impacts the democratic framework of the country. We believe such matters require extensive deliberations and discussions, rather than being rushed through the Cabinet in a hurried manner.”
He further stated the importance of dialogue and debate on the proposal. “We want discussions to be held in Parliament, where all aspects of this policy can be examined thoroughly. During the session, MPs from the INDIA alliance will put forth their suggestions, allowing the people to understand its implications,” he said.
The ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative seeks to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has spoken out on the proposed ‘One Nation-One Election’ bill, stating the need for transparency and open debate in Parliament.
Addressing concerns over the process, he told reporters as per news agency KINS, “It hasn’t reached Parliament yet. It will be discussed in the House, and the discussion must be transparent; it shouldn’t resemble what transpired with Article 370 in 2019.”
Omar Abdullah highlighted the importance of an open conversation on the matter, ensuring that it is thoroughly deliberated.
He also mentioned that the National Conference (NC) will hold internal consultations to form a collective stance on the issue, before advising its MPs on how to vote during the parliamentary discussion. (KINS)
