6 facts about Roza Rasool of Masjid al Nabawi

What is Roza e Rasool?

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is buried in the house of Aisha رضي الله عنها which is part of Masjid al Nabawi now. The grave of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is called Roza Rasool.

People from around the world visit Madina to offer Salam to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at Roda Rasool.

How to offer Salam at Roza Rasool?

History of Roza Rasool

The history of Roda Rasool is quite remarkable;

In 632 AD, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ died and got buried at Roza Rasool.
In 634 AD, Abu Bakr رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ died and got buried there.
In 644 AD, Omer bin Khattab رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ died and got buried there.
In 710 AD, the holy chamber was sealed by Omer bin Abdul Aziz.
It is said that a 4th place is left for Prophet Isa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام.
In 1162 AD, there was an attempt to steal the body of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Roda Rasool.
In 1817 AD, the dome was created around it.
In 1837 AD, the dome of Masjid al Nabawi was painted green by Ottoman Sultan Mahmud.

The Inside of Roda Rasool

The Golden Grill
General public offer Salam from the front side of Roza Rasool where a golden grill is placed with several holes.

The biggest hole on the left straightly faces the grave of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The second small hole faces the grave of Abu Bakr رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ.
The third small hole faces the grave of Omer bin Khattab رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ.
History of Roza Rasool

A sealed chamber
Roza Rasool has no gate and it is totally sealed from the outside except for a small window in the dome which is blocked by a golden grill in the front.

The walls were built by Umar bin Abdul Aziz رحمة الله عليه in 91 AH (710 AD) so that no one may come inside the Chamber.

The Sultan Nur-ud-din Zangi built the chamber around the graves which was filled with molten lead because many disbelievers in the past tried to steal the body of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Why was he buried there?

When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ died, the people around said to bury him in Baqi. On this, Abu Bakr رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ came and said that he heard the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying that a Prophet was never buried elsewhere than the place where he died.
