In five years, 69 militants killed in Srinagar, say Official figures

‘In 2023, no militant was killed in Srinagar, More than 200 militants have been arrested in district’

Srinagar, Apr 19: In the past more than five years, at least 69 militants have been killed in district Srinagar while more than 200 militants have been arrested in the area.

According to the official figures available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), at least 69 militants have been killed in district Srinagar from 2019 to January-31-2024.

The official, however, said that in the year 2023 and in the first month of 2024, no militant was killed in the district.

It further said that from 2019 to 2023, at least 204 militants were arrested. However, till the first month of 2024, no militant was arrested in district Srinagar.

This information was revealed by the Public Information Officer (PIO) of district police Srinagar in a reply to Right to Information (RTI) application filed by the activist M M Shuja.

The official figures reveal that in 2019 at least four militants were killed in Srinagar followed by 22 in 2020. In the year 2021, at least 24 militants were killed followed by 19 militant killings in 2022. The official figures further reveal that in 2023 and till month end of January-2024, no militant was killed in Srinagar district.

According to official figures, from the year 2019 to 2022, the lowest number of killings of militants in Srinagar was in the year 2019 and highest numbers of militants were killed in the year 2021—(KNO)
