Fake Pregnancy Report & Abortion Offer; Srinagar Police booked Doctor for Extortion, Attempt to Commit Offence

Srinagar, March 9: Srinagar Police has booked the doctor for extortion in alleged falsification pregnancy report and its illegal termination offer scam.

The accused doctor has been booked under FIR number 24/2024 for extortion and making an attempt to commit an offence.

“The offences mentioned in FIR are cognizable which means that Police can arrest the accused without warrant. It is also a non-bailable offence,” said an official.

An expert said that if investigation reveals forgery of report was done with the intention to commit the cheating, Section 468 IPC can be added in the offences. Section 468 IPC provides punishment for forgery for purpose of cheating and warrants imprisonment upto seven years.

On 5 March, this year, taking cognizance, authorities have taken action to seal a clinic at Bemina Srinagar.

The Government has also set up a high-level committee to probe the matter.

The Committee is headed by District Health Officer Dr Rubina, Sources privy to development told.

Other members of the committee include Zonal Medical Officer (ZMO) Batamaloo Dr Sami and ZMO SR Gunj Dr Shafqat and Dr Parvaiz.

The victim, in alleged falsification pregnancy reports and its illegal termination offer scam, recorded her statement before the inquiry committee on Friday.

“(After public outcry) a lady came to my office and requested me to return the prescription and we will pay Rs 5 lakh for the same but I refused same (sic),” victim told enquiry committee set up by government to probe the matter.

She further deposed in her statement that the lady in question told her “you’re an unmarried and you’ll face big problems in future.”

She further told committee that she has approached also Srinagar Police for the registration of the case.

The family said that they are cooperating with the committee and will also cooperate with the Police investigation.
